alfredo-pavone-porto-verso-sera
Alfredo Pavone - Port towards evening

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a constant aspiration for painters. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. The "seascape" in particular is a recurring theme among artists. First, for the lyricism implicit in views overlooking the sea or in romantic images of small harbors. Second, because the depiction of aquatic surfaces allows painters to give free rein to their chromatic flair, thanks to refined interplays of reflections and reverberations.

Even in his more specifically landscape views, such as this glimpse of a seaside village, the artist Alfredo Pavone adheres to a highly realistic vision of the perceptible world. However, we can see how, in a work like this, the immediate rendering of atmospheric details and lighting conditions prevails over the narrative of everyday life. For this reason, the present canvas accentuates the impressionistic characteristics typical of plein air painting, which are nevertheless a constant in Alfredo Pavone's oeuvre. The brushstrokes, then, unfold even more rapidly and synthetically, intent on capturing every single vibration of light, especially in the reflections on the water's surface. As usual, the entire space is pervaded by a clear luminosity, achieved through the painter's characteristic chromatic clarity.

Alfredo Pavone, born in the province of Naples on May 27, 1962, began his artistic career at an early age, following in the footsteps of his father, a passionate and self-taught artist.
