The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

The paintings of Antonino Pecoraro are distinguished by a landscape construction that is essentially achieved through color. The artist, in fact, constructs the spatial environment solely through the tonal values of color. Depth is perceived through brushstrokes, which, through rapid, patchy application, create different planes in which the objects are distributed. All this makes the work coherent and unified: the entire surface of the painting is homogeneous through atmospheric and pictorial values. However, this exploration of the expressive values of color often leads Antonino Pecoraro to highly original results. The artist's research, in fact, focuses on the use of hues that transcend the naturalistic, acquiring emotional, if not downright symbolist, meanings. This is particularly evident in the groups of houses that often appear in Pecoraro's works, which are depicted as vibrant polychrome mosaics of strong, bright hues.

Antonino Pecoraro was born in 1927.
