antonio-anelli-senza-titolo
Antonio Anelli - Untitled

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. In his artistic production, Antonio Anelli creates landscapes where flowers and their colors are the protagonists. This type of floral view allows the artist to unleash his full chromatic flair in a language in which an Impressionist stylistic register is taken to its extremes, despite a balanced and perspective-oriented composition.

Antonio Anelli's style displays an extraordinary unity of drawing and color, aiming to achieve a highly poetic type of naturalism. Indeed, we can appreciate how the entire composition rests on a solid drawing structure in which clear volumes are inserted into a regular perspective space: in this way, the view can unfold in space and extend as far as the eye can see in a perfectly naturalistic rendering. At the same time, however, the color breaks down the rigid structure and, with extremely fine hatching, manages to capture all the chromatic and luminous vibrations, especially of the flowers in the foreground. In this way, Antonio Anelli can unleash his full polychrome creativity through a palette of bright, luminous hues.

Antonio Anelli was born in 1941 in Bari, where he studied at the local Art Institute, also earning his teaching qualification.
