It consisted of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with naturalistic or photographic reproductions of reality, with contemporary art, the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as happened, for example, in the Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the mere sensory aspect.

Renzo Magnanini's pictorial language draws inspiration from a lively naturalism. Indeed, he possesses a remarkable technique that allows him to effortlessly reproduce objects, delineate them sculpturally, and seek spatial depth. He is, therefore, a painter with a highly classical bent, yet his brushstrokes possess a profound impressionistic verve that gives his works immediacy and freshness. Thus, the pottery reproduced by Magnanini, always the focus of his still lifes, takes on a distinctly existential quality thanks to the gestural nature of his brushstrokes. This atmosphere is further enhanced by the patina of the past that surrounds his objects, often archaeological finds, marked by cracks and fractures. The effect of light is also evocative, paradoxically bringing these objects, with their ancient feel, to life.

Iro Magnanini, known to all as Renzo Magnanini (Gonzaga 1920, Bentivoglio 2006), was an Italian painter and sculptor. He created many religious paintings, generally focusing on the representation of the human figure. He also painted many still lifes, as well as landscapes and floral subjects. He fought in East Africa in the 1940s. Upon returning from captivity in South Africa in 1948, he resumed his artistic activity, a pursuit he continued throughout his life. His works are exhibited in the Basilica of San Domenico in Bologna, the Russian Museum in Yaroslavl, and the famous Russian State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
