However, in the present painting, the operation is accomplished entirely pictorially, and the object, rather than being physically placed on the canvas, is reproduced. Obviously, the application of the paint refers to a gesture typical of American Abstract Expressionism, with the addition of highly symbolic, sign-based indications.
