arturo-bonanomi-senza-titolo-2
Arturo Bonanomi - Untitled

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a constant aspiration for painters. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. Arturo Bonanomi is a renowned landscape painter who has focused his research on a lyrical interpretation of the places of his native Lombardy.

Arturo Bonanomi's landscapes are always executed with a remarkable Impressionist technique. The artist uses rapid, synthetic brushstrokes to quickly delineate shapes and volumes. This allows him to capture, with every single brushstroke, the effects of light and atmosphere on objects, and to instantly convey the Lombard landscape with precise weather and environmental conditions to the canvas. The entire color palette, from the meadow to the sky, is designed to reflect the precise atmospheric conditions he seeks to represent in a perfect conception of plein air painting. As with the Impressionists, the perspective grid is not eliminated; spatial depth is determined exclusively through the modulations of color. However, Bonanomi's synthetic brushstrokes are also distinguished by a strong existential connotation. His pictorial vibrations, in fact, always search for signs of life present in his views of the countryside or cities, in a profoundly lyrical interpretation of landscape painting.

Arturo Bonanomi was born in 1920 in Calolziocorte and passed away in Lecco in 2010. He initially practiced restoration and decoration, later establishing himself as a landscape painter. Both his language and his subjects retain a 19th-century feel. Bonanomi was also a poet, composing several significant verses between the 1940s and the 1980s and 1990s.
