The medal was created by Arnaldo Pomodoro to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Milan-Serravalle motorway (1960-1990).

In this commemorative medal, Arnaldo Pomodoro reflects the aesthetic principles that made his solids in the round famous. The principle is always the same: to go beyond the smooth and polished surface to discover a complex, mechanomorphic world. The cut, the gash, or the crack allow the viewer to see inside, to find themselves in a new dimension, intricate and rational, that the purity of the external surface in no way suggests. For Pomodoro, therefore, the hermeticism and incommunicability, typical of the Informal aesthetic, reside beneath the surface of things.

Arnaldo Pomodoro was born in Morciano di Romagna in 1936. Since 1954, he has lived and worked in Milan. In the 1960s, he was part of the "Continuità" group, along with Lucio Fontana. He is the creator of public works in numerous cities.
