The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. The artist Aurelio Barbalonga specializes in landscape painting, which he explores in all its thematic variations. His works, in fact, encompass both rural and urban landscapes, as well as the sea.

Aurelio Barbalonga's landscapes demonstrate remarkable technical and compositional skill. His subjects are constructed almost entirely through color, which he expertly distributes with loose brushstrokes charged with luminous vibrations. His paintings thus acquire a marked immediacy and freshness, yet are accompanied by a remarkable realism in the depiction of nature and phenomenal reality, rich in detail and particulars. From a more strictly technical perspective, the tonal coherence he ensures in his paintings is fundamental to Aurelio Barbalonga's work. The entire pictorial surface is modulated by a dominant tone that determines the unity of the work. Consequently, the landscape thus constructed is characterized by perfect spatial coherence, through subtle passages of light, and a precise description of the atmospheric situation.

Aurelio Barbalonga was born in Palermo in 1922 and passed away in Bologna in 2003. In 1956, he founded an art school in the Marche region. In 1964, he moved to Bologna, where he founded the Schola Pictorum, which enjoyed extraordinary success. He participated in numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
