barth-senza-titolo-12
Barth - Untitled

In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic movements. However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color.

The painter Barth devoted his entire research to a pure, uncompromising abstraction rooted in the historical avant-garde movements of the early twentieth century, with a particular interest in the work of Kandinsky. Like the Russian master, Barth's pictorial aim is to transform all reality into a pure perception, uncontaminated by any descriptive frills. And like Kandinsky, Barth's painting demonstrates that the final achievement of pure forms and pure colors requires a path that leads the artist to a progressive transfiguration of sensory data towards abstraction. The present work is a unique testimony to this fundamental transition in Barth's pictorial production, which consists almost exclusively of completely abstract works. Thus, the subject, while still tied to sensory data, is rendered in a powerfully abstract and synthetic form.

Barth is the pseudonym used by Quinto Bartolomeo, a painter and modern art critic.
