These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones.

It can be said that Beppe Vesco's painting looks to the past but is firmly planted in the future. His style recalls sixteenth-century or Baroque tonalism. Color, through a series of tonal transitions, constructs the subject, the space, and their interactions. Even iconographically, there is something ancient about Vesco's painting. However, the artist manages to imbue his work with an extraordinary sense of modernity in his application, which appears almost liquid. His subjects acquire mobility and dynamism, a fundamental indeterminacy that is synonymous with great expressiveness and a profound contemporary sensibility.

Beppe Vesco was born in Palermo in 1949.
