bolzoni-senza-titolo
Bolzoni - Dualism: day and night, earth and sea, positive and negative.

During the 1950s and 1960s, the so-called poetics of the object began to spread in European and American art. Harking back to the readymades of Dadaist memory, a new wave of groups or movements emerged that repurposed everyday objects or discarded materials as works of art. The departure from traditional Dada lay in the strong influence of Abstract Expressionism, which led to the reconfiguration of objects with new languages and new stimuli. In this work, research and experimentation with unusual materials in the composition of the artwork combines with a geometric tendency that explicitly harks back to early abstraction. Another source of inspiration for Bolzoni in developing this work was the grotesque figures of Enrico Baj's "Generals," from which he borrows the highly accentuated polychromy but deconstructs the figuration in an abstract manner.

In composing this work, the artist Bolzoni combines diverse artistic expressions in a highly creative and stimulating manner. The assembly of pieces of fabric using wire is fully in line with the neo-Dadaist poetics and those of Italy's Arte Povera movement, which saw the reuse of discarded materials from consumer society as a critique of that same society, but also as a desire to elevate everyday objects to the level of works of art. Consequently, this leads to in-depth research into entirely new materials and supports in the creative process, which, as in the present work, also have the characteristic of directly transferring the accidental nature of reality into the work. The materials are not painted; they are real, and they definitively break through the two-dimensionality of the painting to invade the viewer's reality. All of this formal conceptualization is contextualized by Bolzoni according to his own aesthetic, which harks back to Kandinsky's historical abstraction. The pieces of fabric are worked to create a composition of pure shapes and pure colors that reconstructs the entire perception of reality in geometric and mechanical forms.

As we can see from the analysis of this work, the artist Bolzoni is characterised by a highly original experimental research that finds its roots in the poetics of the object of New Dada and Arte Povera and in a mechanical-geometric aesthetic that is linked to early Abstractionism.
