The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

In his pictorial research, artist Gino Borlandi displays a wide variety of stylistic influences, ranging from figurative to experimental abstraction. The present work is a beautiful example of his figurative production, in which the depiction of the countryside takes on a decidedly realist tone. But even when Borlandi remains committed to capturing sensory data, he demonstrates the depth of his pictorial research. Indeed, his vision of the cultivated countryside takes on a subtly abstract and geometric character. Space is divided by sharp lines that create a sort of mosaic of chromatic fields. The painter's perceptive exercise leads him to reduce detail in favor of a more expressive representation, also based on an extremely vibrant application of color. Furthermore, the chromatic coherence of the pictorial film is extraordinary, based on a balanced tonal unity.

Gino Borlandi, born in Piedmont in 1960, moved to Genoa at a young age, where he currently resides. He completed his technical studies, during which his inextricable talent for drawing and his subsequent love for painting were revealed. In the 1960s, he first encountered landscape painters active in the Piedmont valleys: E. Peluzzi, B. Biasi, and M. Baretta. His friendly associations and contemporary partnerships with these and other painters were crucial to Borlandi's development. With works from this movement, he participated in important group exhibitions, receiving countless awards and accolades. Meanwhile, Borlandi spent long periods of thoughtful work in the Balearic Islands and the Iberian Peninsula. In the Balearics, he joined the Group of International Artists led by the renowned gallery owner and art dealer Paul Wertheimer.
