carlovigevani-senza-titolo
Carlo Vigevani - Untitled
The work presents a landscape subject, in its simplicity and serenity. In this case, it is a shed in a rural setting, almost obscured by a majestic tree. Although the subject may seem easy to depict, within it we find a balanced and beautifully executed volumetric construction. The painting is bathed in a light that shapes the objects. Vigevani has expertly calibrated the gradation of light to capture a balanced interplay between light and shadow.
\r
The chiaroscuro contrasts reveal the artist's excellent skill, capturing the spirit of the canvas through a palette of essential colors. The color field is solid, and the oily brushstrokes create a pared-down pictorial effect. His style recalls the stylistic research previously undertaken by Giorgio Morandi (1890–1964) in landscape painting, and thus the desire to break down the material treated into forms, without neglecting the intellectual aspect.
\r
The author Carlo Vigevani was born in Harar, Ethiopia, in 1940, to parents who served in the Italian colonial period. Following World War II, the future artist and his family were imprisoned in a British concentration camp in Rhodesia. They were released in 1943, the year he and his family returned to Italy. His adventures in Africa did not end there, as in the early 1950s, he and his family moved to Somalia, Mogadishu, during the period of the Italian Trusteeship Administration of Somalia (AFIS). His time in a foreign land allowed him to acquire new knowledge and experiences that would prove useful in his later life. Upon his return to Italy, in the late 1950s, Carlo Vigevani began to explore his artistic inclinations. After gaining experience in the workplace, with an airline (civilian aircraft pilot training) and at the Italian Consulate in Geneva, and through study, the artist decided to seriously pursue painting. His contact with the art world helped him develop both technically and artistically. Carlo Vigevani has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including Radiogiornale, Naviglio, Bagutta, the Hundred Painters of Via Margutta, and many others. His works are held in private collections as well as galleries and art galleries. Many newspapers have also talked about him: La parola del popolo, Quid, Il Messaggero, Il Tempo, La sponda, Ore12, Il Giornale di Roma, La Tribune de Geneve, Il Resto del Carlino, Roma Centro, Bolaffi Publinchiesta, Cimento, La scena Illustrata, La Tribuna, Il corriere Laziale etc., in addition to copious art publications Comanducci, Quadrato, Arte Mercato, Marguttone, Review of Contemporary Italian Art, Dictionary of Art Masters, Ars Dictandi, Artists “in” Orbita, Encyclopedia of Raffaello Art, Edizioni Romane d'Arte, Eco della Critica, Who's in Italy, Arte Ogg etc.\r
