Vases of flowers became a very common subject from the Baroque period onwards. While the initial intent of this subspecies of still life was to depict reality in minute detail, it later became a pretext for innovative pictorial exercises. Here, the bouquet is composed of a wide variety of different flowers whose colors complement each other.

Carmen de Cerce employs a very spontaneous painting style, closely linked to the pictorial movements of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The painting's background is flat and makes no attempt to convey depth. All attention is thus drawn to the floral composition, which, though rendered with quick touches of color, creates an overall impression that allows us to discern the individual flowers.

Carmen de Cerce is an artist and member of the Via Bagutta Painters' Association in Milan. Her career began in 1973 when she exhibited her works at the Art Fair on that street. She can be considered an artist's daughter, as her father, Bruno, was the creator and founder of the event. From the 1970s onward, De Cerce continued her pictorial explorations, working with oils, acrylics, and mixed media, as well as exploring multimedia experiments.
