concetto-pozzati-re-alta
Concetto Pozzati - Re-altà

Surrealist aesthetics emerged around the 1920s and encompassed all fields of artistic research. Specifically in the visual arts, Surrealism sought to explore the human subconscious and translate it into artwork through a mechanical writing process based on dream analysis. Consequently, Surrealist artworks propose the representation of a dreamlike dimension, completely dissociated from reality. However, this representation often relies on a hyperrealistic formal rendering, precisely to paradoxically accentuate the illusory and ambiguous nature of the surreal dimension. Concetto Pozzati's artistic production, though grounded in subjects derived from analogical processes of association of ideas, instead takes on a predominantly abstract form, closely linked to the aesthetics of graphic design and advertising, so much so that his works often veer into a pop language.

Concetto Pozzati's art can be defined as a surrealism dictated by a cold compositional rationality. In this work, for example, we see how the subjects are synthesized through a clear interplay of pure lines and shapes on a two-dimensional plane. The result is an extremely elegant work where the composition is resolved through a refined interplay of chromatic balances. Pozzati relies on various languages to constantly provide new stimuli to the viewer. Thus, the elegance of his geometric rationality is combined with hermetic signs or images, symbols, and even icons of modern society. Indeed, Pozzati's surrealism, in its clean lines and electric colors, also draws on a vibrant pop vein.

Concetto Pozzati was born in Vo' in 1935 and passed away in Bologna in 2017. He began his career as an Informal artist, later moving towards Pop Art. His artistic language ultimately settled on a Surrealism with a graphic and rationalist approach. He first participated in the Venice Biennale in 1964, a participation that was followed by four more appearances (in 1972, 1982, 2007, and 2009).
