Since the Classical era, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central theme in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism. The human figure, especially the female figure, is central to Costantino Condoianni's artistic research. In his full-figure subjects and portraits, the artist of Greek origins developed his highly original figurative-abstract language.

The painter Costantino Condoianni engages with traditional genres such as the nude and portrait, yet the classical material inherent in these subjects is reworked and recontextualized by the artist with a thoroughly contemporary sensibility. Condoianni's language is essentially expressionist, in the sense of an accentuated synthesis of figures that aims to broaden the image's meaning, towards an exploration of women that goes beyond the simple recording of sensory data. It is an expressionism, however, that still allows glimpses of the classical roots of Condoianni's painting, as the figures are emptied of their plasticity, yet a certain statuesque monumentality remains intact. Furthermore, the artist recovers those volumes that are lost in the drawing through the pictorial layering, with which Condoianni thoroughly explores his subjects. The brushstrokes are structural and, arranged layer upon layer, construct the figure in a complex manner. Thanks to this pictorial elaboration, the artist also manages to achieve intense existential vibrations, making his subjects appear profoundly human.

Costantino Condoianni was an artist of Greek origin, born in Gravena in 1926 and died in Volo in 2000. He lived for many years in Tuscany, particularly in Prato, where he created many of his beloved "human figures" portrayed by friends from Prato. Costantino Condoianni's research, in fact, focuses on the human figure, in which the classical representation of the nude and the portrait takes on an original, formal, Expressionist guise.
