dante-panni-senza-titolo-2
Dante Panni - Untitled

The work draws on a pop aesthetic in its use of stereotypical images and their mechanical reproduction. Pop Art was born in the United States in the second half of the 20th century as an interest/critique by artists of the contemporary "consumer society." All expressions of Pop Art presuppose a sort of double bond with the world of consumerism and the mass media. On the one hand, the artwork is reduced to a mere consumer product, thanks to the use of advertising language in the works and their serial reproduction through mechanical processes. On the other, it is the advertising images and consumer goods themselves that become works of art, as the most genuine and truthful expression of the new society.

Dante Panni's artistic production draws inspiration from a pop aesthetic, not so much in its conceptual foundations as in its stylistic language. Panni uses lithography, exploiting its mechanical reproduction capabilities. He thus creates an elegant graphic work that finds its most immediate references in advertising and design. Thus, as in much of his work, the artist begins with a female face, reimagining it into a pure aesthetic of clean lines and compact areas of color. The contrast is accentuated by the use of bright, almost electric colors, which find a precise reference in the mass media dimension of advertising.

Dante Panni was born in Senigallia in 1924. He trained at the Urbino Institute in 1954 and throughout his career participated in numerous exhibitions throughout Italy (Senigallia, Sassoferrato, San Marino, Ascoli, Reggio Emilia, Forlì, Venice, Rome, Ancona, San Benedetto del Tronto, La Spezia). He worked primarily as a graphic designer and illustrator, receiving important awards such as one from the "Centro Democratico di Cultura e Documentazione" in 1957 and one in Sassoferrato in 1961. Much of Dante Panni's artistic production draws on the prerogatives of mechanical reproduction, seeking an aesthetic based on pure lines and colors.
