The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Dino Migliorini's entire pictorial style and his vision of the Tuscan countryside are marked by a harmonious blend of a post-Impressionist approach and a geometric rationalism à la Ottone Rosai. However, there are works, like the present one, where the former clearly prevails. In this landscape, Migliorini completely eschews solid geometry, entrusting his perception to a flat, two-dimensional space. For this reason, the expressionistic element of color prevails, synthesizing objects with thick, coarse strokes that, through gesture, communicate the artist's sensibility. The palette also takes on stronger, more aggressive hues, compared to the muted tones found in most of Migliorini's works. However, even in this work, the artist does not completely abandon his rational vision of reality. This is evident in the rigid schematism of the composition, punctuated by the tight rhythm of houses and trees, which is perfectly mirrored in the lower section.

Dino Migliorini was a painter originally from Rignano, where he was born in 1907. He trained as an artist in Florence. Having moved to the Tuscan capital in 1924, he became an illustrator for the Nuovo Giornale newspaper and frequented the circles of Ardengo Soffici and Ottone Rosai. His first solo exhibition was also held in Florence. In the 1950s, his fame spread beyond the region and throughout Italy, with over 100 exhibitions, consistently acclaimed by critics and the public.
