This technique is undoubtedly linked, first and foremost, to the poetics of the object, as it involves the use of discarded materials from consumer society. Another key component is Pop Art's interest in mass media. Finally, artistic gesture also comes into play, as the artist tears down the posters. The greatest exponent of the Décollage technique was Mimmo Rotella.

The pop influence that pervades Domenico Villano's work is rediscovered through the revival of icons, not only from the world of art but also from film and music. The artist's pop vision unfolds through the poster, an object torn from its context to be reworked with new meaning. In this specific work, the face of the surrealist artist Dali is brought back into collage, directly and abruptly confronting the accidental nature of reality in artwork. The act of painting the canvas thus brings the artist's manual skill to the work, imbuing it with new meaning. The artist further reconfigures the work with gestural painting, inspired by Abstract Expressionism and, more directly, by the Pop Art practiced by the Piazza del Popolo School. The use of advertising elements and graphic symbols inspired by the world of comics also falls within the scope of a Pop aesthetic.

Domenico Villano was born in Battipaglia in 1980.
