A flower of many colors, its symbolism is linked to mystery and magical creatures. There is a legend associated with this flower: before embarking on a long journey, the nymph Antinea receives a garland of freesias from her faun friend Yhorus. The journey will be eternal, but the nymph will forever remember her faun friend. Thus, the flower becomes a symbol of friendship and platonic love. The plant is depicted by the painter Fabio Failla through the still life genre, which has continued to be a significant genre in contemporary art, evolving and reinventing itself through new perspectives and artistic expressions, finding itself both as a subject and a means of exploring conceptual and symbolic concepts.

Fabio Failla paints a vase of flowers in a painterly manner, capturing a graceful and sincere representation through soft, pleasing gradations of light. The brushstrokes are delicate, giving the painting a well-balanced chromatic balance. Furthermore, the use of light, thanks to the oil technique, creates a pleasing pictorial depth.

Self-taught artist Fabio Failla was born in Lucca in 1917. Failla's painting developed during his move to Florence, where he had the opportunity to observe the great Tuscan artistic tradition, and then continued his training in the studio of the painter Vagnetti. In 1939, he participated in the Second World War and was imprisoned by the Germans, managing to escape and take refuge in Pollenza, in the Marche region. 1946 marked a turning point in his artistic career, as he decided to move to Rome, where he began exhibiting. His first solo show took place in 1948 at the Chiurazzi Gallery. In the 1950s, he participated in the Venice Biennale and exhibited at the Rome Quadriennale. During this period, he also traveled to the United States, where he continued to exhibit.
