The individual features of the objects are reduced in favor of the expressive power of the scene. The spatial setting is also concise, and depth is hinted at only by the overlapping of chromatic areas. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and immediately devoted himself to painting natural landscapes from life. In Livorno, he met Ugo Manaresi and Renuccio Renucci, and in 1919 he settled in Maremma, where he created his first works featuring countryside scenes, woodlands, farmhouses, and herds. In 1920, he became one of the founders of the Gruppo Labronico and exhibited in various shows in the city that same year.
