At a young age, he took a drawing course at the Polytechnic School of Athens, then, from 1906 to 1908, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Beginning in 1910, his reading of Nietzsche inspired him to produce his first self-portraits and metaphysical landscapes.\n From 1911 to 1915, he settled and worked in Paris, exhibiting at various annual salons. During the war, de Chirico was admitted to the military hospital in Ferrara; there he met Carlo Carrà and Filippo De Pisis. At the end of the war, de Chirico went to Rome and participated in the \"Valori plastici\" exhibitions. His first solo exhibition was in 1919. In the 1920s, the artist adopted a more classical style and techniques borrowed from the old masters (glazing, tempera, etc.). Between 1924 and 1929, the artist lived in Paris again. In 1926, he joined the \u003ca class=\"lien44\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mchampetier.com\/arte-movimenti-NOVECENTO_ITALIANO.html\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" name=\"\"\u003eNovecento\u003c\/a\u003e movement, which was a clear opposition to modernism; De Chirico was criticized for this choice, and many of his artistic connections turned their backs on him.\r \nDe Chirico explored the theme of the double in canvases in which he depicted himself alongside his mother, brother, or mirrors. He also painted characters from Greek mythology, portraits, and horses, composing still lifes that he called \"silent lives.\" De Chirico delighted in confusing the cards of his art, creating around himself the enigma that would define him. He was criticized for imitating himself. Giorgio de Chirico illustrated several works (Apollinaire, \u003ca class=\"lien44\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mchampetier.com\/Jean-Cocteau-169-it.html\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" name=\"\"\u003eCocteau\u003c\/a\u003e , Éluard, etc.), designed opera sets and costumes, and wrote (novels and short prose).
