giovanni-parlato-nudo
Giovanni Parlato - Nude

The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central theme in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.

Specializing in nudes, portraits, and still lifes, this is an exemplary work of Giovanni Parlato's interpretation of the female figure. His compositions are primarily based on drawing, which harmoniously and balancedly delineates the forms and, above all, enhances the plastic qualities. The subject's volumes are highlighted through an almost hyperrealist style, which eschews overly pictorial or atmospheric effects. The nude's sleek, compact forms are therefore immersed entirely in a diffuse, objectifying light. This, however, does not prevent the artist from creating a lively and evocative interplay of light, reflections, and shadows. Indeed, the pictorial layering is dynamic, in a style that excels in depicting intense vibrations.

Giovanni Parlato was born in Vico Equense on the Sorrento Peninsula in 1957. He studied at the Sorrento Art Institute and furthered his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. He devoted himself to figurative painting and made his debut in 1978, with his unmistakable signature, at the International Art Gallery in Vico Equense. He has also participated in several solo exhibitions in the surrounding area. During these years his portraits and figures inserted in everyday life environments become the protagonists of exhibitions of wider resonance at renowned art galleries, such as “Arte e Arte Gallery” in Torre Annunziata (1996), “La Scintilla” in Vico Equense (1996) and the “Centro d'Arte Engema” in Pagani, Salerno (1996). From 1997 to 1999 he participated in the “Expo Arte” in Bari. At the same time, in 1998, he moved to Cadaquès (Barcelona) where he exhibited with a personal “sales d'exposicion casinò”. In 2000 he was one of the protagonists of the “Mostra Mercato d'Arte” in Padua. In 2001 he returned to Cadaquès, finding great success among collectors, so much so that he was reintroduced in 2005 with an exhibition in Madrid. In 2007 the artist became the protagonist of a personal exhibition at the cultural centre “graziart” in Bitonto. Giovanni Parlato currently lives in Vico Equenze, where he works tirelessly to rediscover himself and his art.
