giulio-masseroni-volto-di-donna-2
Giulio Masseroni - Woman's Face

Portraiture is one of the most widespread artistic expressions, especially in painting, but also in sculpture, throughout the ages. Portraiture is, first and foremost, a description of the subject depicted, an attempt to capture their physiognomy and individual characteristics truthfully and naturally. With the progressive evolution of artistic research, the physiognomic description of the subject has also been accompanied by a psychological one. Therefore, over the centuries, portraiture has also become a means of introspective investigation of the subject, their character, and their state of mind. The processes of abstraction brought about by contemporary art have contributed to this type of investigation.

Giulio Masseroni stands out for his remarkable painting technique, which allows him to perfectly render his subject in a naturalistic way. The subject appears in a three-quarter view with a natural rotation. There is great precision and richness of detail, both in the physiognomy and in the clothing and accessories. In addition to this meticulous attention to detail, the painter is also distinguished by a loose brushstroke that creates a delicate softness in the modeling. The subject's forms blend seamlessly with the space, and the play of light and shadow is very natural.

Giulio Masseroni was a painter from Bergamo, born in 1900 and died in 1980. After attending high school and a technical institute in his hometown, he volunteered at 17 and fought in the Battle of Caporetto during the First World War. In 1920, he joined Gabriele D'Annunzio's legions in the Fiume campaign. Encouraged by his father, he began studying drawing, frequenting Giuseppe Siccardi's studio. In 1925, he held his first solo exhibition in Bergamo, exhibiting at the Accademia Carrara and subsequently in various provincial and regional exhibitions. He participated in the 1932 Venice Biennale (winning the La Colomba prize) and subsequently held solo and group exhibitions in almost every Italian city, as well as in Switzerland and Germany. A member of the Società di Cultura and for ten years a trustee of the city's Fine Arts Union, he was secretary and one of the main organizers of the Bergamo Prize.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0909/7065/3058/files/84DDFC6C-E887-4215-823B-BD5BBAF099AC.jpg?v=1768474882
