guerrieri-senza-titolo
Francesco Guerrieri - Untitled

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Artist Francesco Guerrieri's work is essentially focused on abstract geometric perception. This approach to artistic creation is reflected in his work even when he explores more figurative themes, such as landscape painting. Thus, we can appreciate how, for Francesco Guerrieri, the urban agglomeration becomes a collection of pure shapes and colors, reducing objects to a primary essence. This is why his depiction of urban space takes on an almost naive quality, with his instinctive way of tracing lines and geometric shapes, arranging them in an unnatural space. Around the essential and primary geometry of buildings, Francesco Guerrieri, on the other hand, seems to almost free himself from his interest in form, giving way to a genuine expressionist gesture. Thus, the landscape backdrop is constructed through a dense pictorial layer that still traces those primary and essential principles of perception, but this time free from the square grids of the buildings. From a color point of view, everything is in tune with a high anti-naturalism with the exquisitely expressionist choice of strong, almost aggressive colors, which create refined dissonances within the composition.

Francesco Guerrieri is an artist born in Borgia in 1939 but trained in Rome, where he attended the Academy of the International Artistic Association and the Académie de France.
