Byzantine art retains all its strongly archaic stylistic features, aimed at exalting the supernatural and divine nature of what is depicted. For this reason, the panel exhibits a marked anti-naturalism of medieval origin. The conception of space is not rational, there are no regular proportions, and the subjects appear very elongated. The facial features are generalized, and the gazes are lost in contemplation of the divine. These are all elements that contribute to the work's transcendent aura.
