l-fiume-senza-titolo
Laura Fiume - Untitled

Animal depictions in art have ancient origins, appearing even in primitive cave paintings. For religious reasons, various types of animals appear in the works of various ancient civilizations. It was especially in the Middle Ages, within the International Gothic style, that animal depictions became widespread as true life portraits, both within works of art and in notebooks of drawings and sketches. The presence of animals as subjects in art remained constant until the contemporary era. Laura Fiume's pictorial and graphic production is almost entirely focused on the representation of animals, in an original and highly recognizable style that makes this artist's work unique.

Laura Fiume's animal representations are based on a consciously simplified language, aimed at reclaiming simplicity and purity while still maintaining high aesthetic values. For this reason, her style can be described as a kind of playful naïf, combining simplification with a refined vivacity and playfulness. The subjects, therefore, undergo a remarkable process of abstraction, conducted along essential lines yet maintaining a perfect overall compositional balance. Within this rigor, however, the artist's imagination bursts forth, delighting in reworking her figures in magical polychromes and constructing the subjects by combining the parts as if in a collage. The entire creation of the work truly takes the form of a game in which simplicity and creativity come together to create a unique work with a direct aesthetic impact.

Laura Fiume was born in Urbino in 1953. She received her education in Milan, first at the Art High School and the Polytechnic School of Design, then at the Filanda di Canzo mill near Como, where she learned the techniques of screen printing, ceramics, and painting under her father, Salvatore Fiume. Her artistic research, focused on animal representations, draws on the expressionist synthesis of Salvatore Fiume's style, but this painter reworks it into a more naive and playful version. Laura Fiume's works have been exhibited in numerous shows worldwide.
