leonardo-piazzanelli-primavera
Leonardo Pizzanelli - Spring

The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the female figure is an expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the female figure has also been a central theme in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism. The female figure is central to Leonardo Pizzanelli's artistic production in an excellent series of nude portraits and allegorical figures.

In Leonardo Pizzanelli's works, we can always appreciate this artist's masterful technique. The figure, as always in his work, is created with a warm manual skill that allows this painter to achieve a completely naturalistic rendering. Thus, in the children's faces, we find such detailed representations that they almost reach hyperrealism. Even in the other figures, or in the landscape context, we can appreciate a lightness of touch that makes the volumes simultaneously plastic and soft. The forms are rendered with delicate, nuanced shading that makes the contours uncertain and more vivid.

Leonardo Pizzanelli (Torre del Lago 1920 – Florence 1984) was born into an artistic family (his father Ferruccio was also a painter) and trained in Florence, where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts. His first solo exhibition in Pisa was held in 1942 at the Palazzo alla Giornata; from 1943 to 1947, he frequented the Florentine art scene, which sparked his artistic flair, with landscapes and still lifes, figures, portraits, and nudes, in the typical twentieth-century vein. He then began visiting Paris, Canada, England, and Africa, where he also founded art schools.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0909/7065/3058/files/IMG_7664_370023a6-2c6c-4c95-a355-1d3d86720764.jpg?v=1768470367
