During the 1970s, he began an intense exploration of the free juxtaposition of objects and figures within fantastical and suspended atmospheres, inspired by Neo-Dada and Pop Art. During these years, he experimented with various painting techniques, combining fluorescent colors, decals, collage, and photographic transpositions. Between 1972 and 1973, he exhibited in Florence's major private galleries, introduced by his poet and friend Alfonso Gatto. During the 1980s, he received his first official recognition with his participation in the Venice Biennale in 1982 and the 11th Rome Quadriennale in 1985. In 1990, he had the honor of painting the "Cencio" for the Palio di Siena, the banner awarded to the winner. He established himself on the national art scene in 1993, on the occasion of the anthological exhibition held at the Palazzo Reale in Milan, where he presented an important group of works that retraced his entire artistic career. This exhibition concludes with the fantastic landscapes of his maturity, characterised by a lively and brilliant colour scheme and a highly original pictorial technique that combines textured layers with refined fields of smooth and transparent colour. In Florence, in the Vasari Corridor of the Uffizi, his Self-portrait has been exhibited since 1999, having been purchased by the Museum itself. In 2009 he exhibited a solo exhibition of 45 works at the Beijin Today Art Museum in Beijing, at the SunShine Centre for Contemporary Art in Shanghai and at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kun Shan, a satellite city of Shanghai. In 2011 in Città di Castello he exhibited a solo exhibition entitled “Gelo” [1] . The name draws inspiration from a quote by the writer Franz Kafka, which Alinari paraphrases as follows: "A painting is an axe to split the frost within us." Like the writer, Alinari attributes the task of thawing to his latest works, which, compared to those of the 1960s and 1970s, are colored with a vibrant red, as if to awaken all who view them to what the world is experiencing: frost. Also in 2011, he designed the logo for the 2013 Cycling World Championships, with races held in Tuscany for the first time. The logo, according to the author, with the essential lines of a bicycle, its frame becoming the edge of a hill, encapsulates a Renaissance profile, a hint of the Italian landscape with its ubiquitous cypress trees, but also the rationality of the line and the new humanist perspective. In September 2011, the Palazzo Medici del Vascello in Asti hosted an important solo exhibition of the artist, in which he presented his new figurative expressiveness with the "queens of dreams", fairy-like creatures that emerge from enchanted landscapes and find space on the cover of the magazine Art & Wine n. 20, promoter of the exhibition curated by Fabio Carisio. On 12 June 2014 he was awarded at the Spoleto Festival Art. On 28 September 2014 he received the Castruccio National Award together with Giorgietto Giugiaro and other exponents of culture and medicine. On 10 June 2015 he received the "Filo d'argento" award for painting, the Florentia Mater medal created by the master Roberto Ciabani and cast in bronze by the Fonderia il Cesello; together with other excellences such as Sergio Zavoli (journalism), Lindsay Kemp (dance), Don Backy (music), Francesco Gurrieri (architecture), Marga Nativo former prima ballerina of the Maggio Musicale, Rino Marchesi Fiorentina player, Don Silvano Nistri and the photographer Sergio Bonamici.
