luciano-gasbarri-vecchio-casolare
Luciano Gasbarri - Old Farmhouse

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. In Luciano Gasbarri's artistic production, the countryside is a favorite subject. This theme is developed by the Chieti-born painter with a sense of rarefied solitude.

In his works dedicated to countryside landscapes, Luciano Gasbarri momentarily abandons his hyperrealist and deliberately illusory style, inspired by De Chirico's Metaphysical Art, to adopt a language based on delicate chromatic modulation. The landscape is conceived as overlapping areas of light colors that blend together through transparent glazes. Luciano Gasbarri's touch is extremely delicate, allowing him to achieve an excellent naturalistic rendering but also to achieve a certain pictorial synthesis that makes the execution vibrant with a suffused lyricism. In this sense, it should be emphasized that in this painter's landscapes, even when he formally abandons metaphysical language, a certain sense of expectation and suspense persists. This is particularly evident in the composition, based on a broad perspective that enhances the sense of solitude expressed by the tree at the center of the scene.

Luciano Gasbarri was born in 1940 in Chieti. He was a very popular artist on the Roman art scene in the 1980s and founded the Roman Neo-Impressionism and Unionism movements. He promoted the Pittori del Sole art group and was a student of Giorgio de Chirico. He exhibited his work in cities such as Paris and Miami and received over 200 awards throughout his career.
