Pop Art was born in the United States in the second half of the
20th century as an interest/criticism, by artists, towards the
contemporary "consumer society." All the expressions of Pop Art
presuppose a sort of double bind with the world of consumerism and
of the mass media. On the one hand, it is the work of art that is reduced to a mere
consumer product, thanks to the use of advertising language in the works and
to their serial reproduction thanks to mechanical processes. On the other hand, they are
It is precisely the advertising images and consumer goods that become themselves
works of art, as the most genuine and truthful expression of the new
society.

Marco Lodola's artistic production is linked to a pop aesthetic both
formal and conceptual level. From an aesthetic point of view it is evident how
Lodola uses a mass-media visual language when simplifying
the images, making them iconic and combining them with an aggressive chromaticism,
compact and brightly colored. Something very similar to a language
advertising, created with the aim of attracting and fascinating. Even as far as
regarding the subjects Lodola sticks to a Pop vocabulary, because a large part
some of his works concern those mythical 60s, the era of the economic boom,
one of the most popular and iconic seasons, indeed, in Italian history.

Marco Lodola was born in Dorno in 1955. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts
Arts of Florence. In the 1980s he approached Futurism. Lodola combined his
visual art to other disciplines, such as music and literature. His
artistic language is characterized by the use of plastic materials in which
physically introduces light. He has participated in several editions of the Biennale
of Venice. He created the poster for the Turin Olympics in 2006 and the
The Ariston Theatre's facade for the 2008 Sanremo Music Festival.
