From its themes to its new techniques, this genre is taking on a new representational structure, so much so that contemporary artists are beginning to explore the relationship between humanity and the environment, often addressing issues such as climate change, urbanization, and sustainability. This is also because contemporary landscape painting is a dynamic fusion of tradition and innovation, continually evolving in response to the social, cultural, and ecological changes of our time. It invites viewers to reflect on their relationship with the environment and the role of art.

The artist's style, as evidenced by his work, touches on post-Impressionist notes, leading him to interpret reality on a symbolic level. This translates pictorially into rich, textured brushstrokes that capture the vibrations of light and life on the subject in all its essentiality, punctuated by a certain decomposition across different pictorial planes. The aim seems to be to capture the essence of the painting rather than its reality, and thus the agitated and swirling gestures seek to evoke an earthly spirituality. The choice of a color palette that almost entirely transcends phenomenal reality, adopting almost aggressive hues, fully in line with an Expressionist poetics, also points in the same direction.

Mariano Parisi, known professionally as Rioma, was born in Sicily in 1948 and spent most of his career in Milan.
