The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.\u003cbr\u003e\n \u003cbr\u003e \nThis work is particularly interesting as it represents one of the rare examples of landscape painting by the artist Edolo Masci. In his landscapes, the Abruzzo artist seems to remain more faithful to the sensory than in other iconographic subjects, where the process of synthesis and abstraction is more pronounced. However, Masci's appreciation of color expressionism remains essentially unchanged, in which the synthesis of the subject is achieved essentially through the pictorial layering, an almost gestural and highly tormented layering. Consequently, for Edolo Masci, the sense of nature and landscape also has a strongly existentialist connotation. The figures are crushed in an almost two-dimensional space, and frenetic hatching constructs uncertain, undefined forms. The space appears enclosed by a dense pictorial material. Similarly, Edolo Masci's palette does not allow glimpses of light, but encloses the portion of the world depicted in an opaque dimension with livid reflections that represent existential vibrations.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\n \u003cp\u003eEdolo Masci was born in Castiglione a Casauria in 1938 and passed away in Rome in 2008. His fame is primarily linked to his cliché-verre engraving technique. His career developed in Rome, where Masci frequented Mino Maccari, Libero De Libero, and Rafael Alberti.
