The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Michele Spatuzzi's pictorial language is based on a highly cursive interpretation of phenomenal reality. His representation relies exclusively on color, with a lively, darting stroke that delineates subjects charged with vibrations of light. With this technique, Spatuzzi manages to create a highly ethereal painting in which the landscape almost dissolves into the light and atmosphere.

Michele Spatuzzi was born in Avellino in 1922 and died in Naples in 2009.
