He was a prolific painter during his figurative period in Italy until 1968, and found a new expressive medium, based on abstraction and geometric forms dominated by color, in his new homeland, America. His connection to Italy never wavered, thanks to his presence at renowned art exhibitions, which was strengthened by Argento leading a large group of international artists working in Friuli after the 1976 earthquake in the FRIAM group.
