natale-de-luca-lcucieombre
Natale De Luca - Lights and Shadows

In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic movements. However, when an artist's goal is to depict an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color. In Natale De Luca's paintings, abstract and figurative often blend almost seamlessly. The artist invents original combinations of architectural and landscape elements, but everything is transfigured into an extremely experimental language, always striving for strong expressiveness.

Natale De Luca's compositions draw inspiration from a highly original interpretation of architectural and landscape elements. The figurative element remains, but in a totally abstract recontextualization. Different objects overlap in an extremely complex space, heavily influenced by Cubist exploration, constructed on multiple directions and viewpoints. Within these multidimensional boxes, the objects break down and open up onto the surface, giving rise to complex compositions. Furthermore, the rendering, from a formal standpoint, tends to be abstract and synthetic, bordering on the informal.

Natale De Luca was born in Genoa in 1931. In 1965, he joined the "Gruppo Artisti dell'Acquasola" (Acquasola Artists Group) and participated in several group exhibitions. In 1976, inspired by the artistic debates surrounding "Arte Povera," he participated in the first experimental painting exhibition at the "Il Tobbio" Art Hall in Voltaggio (GE). The exhibition was organized by a group of artists who aimed to use colors derived exclusively from natural earths, with a particular focus on those found in their local area, starting with the riverbed of the stream that flows between the hills of Voltaggio and the surrounding countryside. This led to the birth of the "Nella natura con la natura" (In Nature with Nature) manifesto and the "Pittori delle terre" (Painters of the Lands) group, with whom De Luca developed an intense research program that culminated in an exhibition at the Teatro Falcone in Genoa. Since 1989, he has participated in all the exhibitions of the CGIL National Artists Union in Genoa.
