p-golostein-bolocan-vaso-fiorito
Piera Goldstein Bolocan - Flower vase

Flowers as an independent subject began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world, as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers were depicted not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also became a way of interpreting reality.

Even in her still life paintings or vases of flowers, Piera Goldstein Bolocan maintains her distinctive realist poetics, where everything, however, is transfigured by a gaze filtered by memory. Thus, in this work too, the vase of flowers is depicted in all its concreteness, with the desire to precisely capture each individual flower, each twig, in a truly remarkable display of drawing technique. But the overall compositional idea of the work speaks to us of a decontextualized space, without reference to objective reality. The created environment, in which the object appears as an apparition, unfolds as a pictorial vibration, vibrant and dynamic, with which the vase itself interacts.

Piera Goldstein Bolocan is a Milanese painter.
