Artists' desire was to make a clean sweep and start from scratch with a new conception of artistic practice, open to new materials that could incorporate different perceptual stimuli (such as tactile sensation) and have a more direct connection with reality. Hence the use of discarded materials, or those derived from the world of technology, assembled into compositions and installations.

Painter Paola Romano's research is essentially focused on matter. The surfaces of her paintings are almost like cultures in which she allows the various materials she experiments with in her compositions to settle. In this way, as in Spatialism or the work of artists like Alberto Burri, a direct connection is created between the work and reality. The material, and its processes that generate form, introduce the accidental nature of reality. Visually, too, the work invades the viewer's dimension with its volumes and tactile textures. Furthermore, Paola Romano's works exhibit a great elegance, also linked to her aesthetic exploration of the application of monochromatic color.

Paola Romano was born in Monterotondo in 1950. She trained as an artist in Rome, where she lives and works. After initial exploration of a gestural figurative language and an aniconic phase, she finally arrived at the material informalism that has always distinguished her. Since 2004, in particular, she has established herself in the Italian contemporary art scene with a series of exhibitions. Among her most notable exhibitions are the Museum of Musical Instruments in Rome, her participation in the 53rd Venice Biennale, and the solo exhibition "Equilibri astrali" at the Complesso Monumentale Sant'Andrea al Quirinale in Rome in 2012. In Hong Kong, she has exhibited her works at the Cultural Center Teatro dell'Opera.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0909/7065/3058/files/WhatsApp-Image-2018-12-17-at-16.02.421.jpg?v=1768407353
