pietro-lietti-senza-titolo
Pietro Lietti - Untitled

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. The artist Pietro Lietti specializes in creating landscapes that blend sincere realism with an intense lyrical interpretation. His favorite subject is the country village, made up of small rural settlements immersed in nature. However, he also often devotes himself to the subject of the sea, with romantic little ports and fishermen at work.

From a formal perspective, the style of painter Pietro Lietti is essentially based on the structural function of color. The image is constructed through a dense network of thick, dense brush strokes. This technique, inspired by post-Impressionism, is at times almost pointillist, whereby the viewer's eye must reconstruct the image. In this way, Lietti creates a depiction charged with representative immediacy and, at the same time, rich in expressive vigor. All of this is consistent with the poetics the artist seeks to express through his works: a frankly realistic representation that also considers the complexity of the human gaze, accompanied by a highly lyrical, emotional interpretation, expressed through the vigor of his brushstrokes. Even when it comes to his palette, Pietro Lietti is in tune with this simultaneously realist and poetic aesthetic; indeed, the entire surface of his works is based on a uniform palette of brown hues.

Pietro Virgilio Lietti was born in Monza in 1928. Born into an artistic family, he learned his first lessons from his father, Guido, a sculptor, decorator, and teacher at Villa Reale. He lives and works in Brianza, and it is primarily its landscapes that inspire his artistic output. His style draws primarily from post-impressionist poetics.
