pietro-virgilio-lietti-senza-titolo-3-2
Pietro Virgilio Lietti - Untitled

The landscape has always been a protagonist in artistic research, both as
setting, as a background, but also as the subject itself.
naturalistic description of the landscape was one of the major aspirations
for artists of every era. Each historical period has given its own
interpretation of the landscape contributing to the evolution of its
description: first with a research on space, through perspective
Brunelleschi's in the early Renaissance; then on the atmospheric rendering in the
Sixteenth century; up to the representation of every single vibration
of light on objects in Impressionism.

The aim of the artist Pietro Virgilio Lietti is to give an interpretation
simplified version of reality, in search of new values of purity in
representation. For this reason his attitude can be defined as a pictorial one.
of a naive type, which however is expressed in a very classical pictorial style and
traditional. His language, in fact, is substantially figurative and finds its
its widest realization in the traditional genres of landscape view
or still life. However, the artist manages to infuse his originality and the
his personal touch even in tradition, precisely through his research
of purity in the representation that conforms his style. Concretely
all this is expressed in a loose technique, which resolves the subjects with few
quick but incisive strokes. The objects almost dematerialize in the lightness
of the glazes. Even from the chromatic point of view the artist tends towards
decidedly light shades, full of light.

Pietro Virgilio Lietti was born in Monza in 1928. Son of an artist, he learned his first skills
teachings from his father Guido, sculptor, decorator and teacher at Villa
Reale. He lives and works in Brianza and it is above all his places that inspire his works.
landscapes of his artistic production. His style draws inspiration above all
from post-impressionist poetics.
