rabarama-impressioni
Rabarama - Impressions

The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central theme in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism. Sculptor Rabarama draws on a profound study of human anatomy to develop her highly original artistic production, in which the representation of the body is combined with a sculptural form of great symbolic power.

The human figure is central to Rabarama's artistic research, although this sculptor's work lacks any attempt at naturalistic rendering. Instead, the human body is used as a means of expressing a powerfully symbolic and spiritual message. Rabarama's creations are, as she herself defines them, humanoids without a specific identity, with generic features. Their appearance transcends the individual to take on broader, universal meanings. The strength of this meaning lies in the artist's exquisite formal care with which she creates her works. Indeed, the entire surface of the sculptures is covered with a complex pattern of designs, precious materials, and mirrored surfaces, making it clear that the humanoid figures are nothing less than the personification of higher forces. The powerful symbolic force of Rabarama's subjects does not prevent the artist from achieving an excellent rendering of the human figure. Indeed, Rabarama's bodies contort, very naturally, in complex, tense positions, in a dramatic tension that also participates in the symbolic dimension and spiritual strength that underlie these sculptures.

Paola Epifani, known professionally as Rabarama, was born in Rome in 1969.
