remo-brindisi-pastorale-4
Remo Brindisi - Pastoral

Remo Brindisi was a prolific Italian artist, not only in Europe but also internationally. His encounters with artists such as Felice Carena, Ardengo Soffici, and Ottone Rosai in Florence provided him with the tools to enrich his pictorial research. His painting style is strongly expressionist, with informal tendencies, yet still retains vibrant forms and colors. In this composition, the artist boldly expresses the pastoral and animalistic aspects through unusual combinations. The emphasis on the drawing is also achieved through the retouché technique, which in art refers to the process of retouching a work, which in printmaking and engraving can refer to the act of modifying an engraved plate to improve the final print. This can include cleaning up lines, adding details, or enhancing contrasts.

Brindisi is often associated with a way of representing human emotions through distorted forms and intense colors. His work explores abstract figures, yet finds recognizable forms in his drawings. These are often stylized but possess a strong emotional charge. This emotional charge becomes a hallmark of Remo Brindisi's art. Color is a central element; his palette is vibrant, with bright, contrasting hues that help create a dramatic atmosphere and underscore the emotional intensity of the scenes depicted. Color is given a specific function; it becomes a vehicle for emotions and concepts.

Remo Brindisi is one of the most prolific painters of the Italian twentieth century. Born in Rome in 1918, he lived a life marked by cultural and artistic commitment. From 1935 onwards, he attended courses at the Centro Sperimentale di Scenografia e Nudo (Experimental Center of Scenography and the Nude) at the Academy on Via Ripetta in Rome. That same year, he received a scholarship that allowed him to travel to Urbino to pursue a five-year course. During his many study trips, he met Carlo Cardazzo, an important gallery owner who discovered many of the most renowned artists of the post-World War II era, and he had the opportunity to exhibit at his Milanese gallery for many years. While many know him for his portraits and landscape scenes depicting Venice, marked by a strong chromatic impact and expressionistic style, he also left his mark on the history of the twentieth century with major politically themed series such as "Reazionario in azione" (Reactionary in Action), "Oppositori in lotta" (Oppositionists in Struggle), and "Storia del Fascismo" (History of Fascism), the latter now held at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome. He also opened his own house museum, which he donated to the municipality of Comacchio. It exhibits his own works as well as those of the most important exponents of Italian art of the last century.
