The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Renato Bussi conceives the urban view or landscape as a harmonious ensemble of volumes. These volumes, however, are not constructed by the painter through a drawn architecture; rather, it is the brushstrokes that erect the scaffolding of the buildings. The surface is essentially two-dimensional, but the application is complex, and the broad brushstrokes, arranged on different planes, analyze the structure of the objects, revealing it on the canvas. Everything, therefore, is constructed by color, which has a dense, thick consistency. The objects, summarized in a simple manner by the painter, become part of a pictorial continuum, highly fluid and dynamic. The artist's entire perception is conveyed in this flow of color. The palette, composed of very strong hues and contrasts, tends toward expressionism.

Renato Bussi was a Roman painter, born in 1926 and died in 1999. As a child, he began to take his first steps in the art world, entering the studio of Vincenzo Jerace. He later studied sculpture with Giovanni Ardini, focusing on the Scapigliatura movement. Only later did he decide to devote himself fully to painting, attending courses at the San Giacomo Evening Art School and the Scuola Libera del Nude. His discovery of the Impressionists was crucial to the development of his pictorial language. In 1947, he finally enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts, studying Cubism and Futurism in depth.
