The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. The subject of this work is typical of the work of Renzo Moreu, who created numerous views of the Karst in autumn.

\r
The pictorial language of the master Renzo Moreu is distinguished by a seamless fusion of classical tradition and contemporary sensibility. Especially in his landscape paintings, the artist gives free rein to contemporary expressionism, reaching the heights of an expressionist language. This landscape is a beautiful example of this, where Renzo Moreu subjects the data of tangible reality to an accentuated synthesis of color. Nature is minimized in a subtle, calligraphic style, richly arabesqued and dark, which contrasts with broader chromatic areas, vibrant with a shifting, nuanced light. This is a decidedly lyrical, if not downright spiritual, interpretation of landscape painting, grounded in the expressive qualities of color and line, rather than form. Even the choice of palette demonstrates the same desire to transcend contingent data to embrace a spiritual meaning of color. In this painting, the almost fiery hues of autumnal vegetation stand out against the diaphanous light of the clear, sunny sky.\r
\r
Renzo Moreu was born in Ronchi dei Legionari in 1934 and passed away in Monfalcone in 2015. He studied at the Abbazia Art Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. A figurative and expressionist, he had over 130 solo exhibitions and participated in 35 group shows and exhibitions in Italy, France, the former USSR, Argentina, Canada, Australia, and Japan. His works are present in private and public collections in Italy, the former Yugoslavia, Switzerland, the former USSR, Australia, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Argentina, Canada, Japan, and Austria, as well as in the modern art museums of Sion and Lausanne and the Museo Revoltella in Trieste. Other permanent works include: Palazzo La Motta, New York; Krain Museum, Belgrade. Commissioned by the Presidency of the Republic of Yugoslavia, he designed the "Trieste Battalion" Monument to the Resistance—located in Slovenia (Opacchiasella) in 1975. Commissioned by the Holy See, he painted a "Via Crucis" in the Parish Church of Santo Stefano in Ronchi dei Legionari. Commissioned by the Bishops of Ljubljana and Koper, he created a fresco depicting the multiplication of the loaves and fishes in 1992, located in Slovenia (Ronzina).
