rogani-regola-8
Antonio Nigro Rogani - Rule 8

The work draws inspiration from an Informal aesthetic. The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge led to a complete rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the materials with which they compose their works.

While the final result of this work by Antonio Nigro Rogani can be effectively described as Informal, we are faced with a painter closely tied to the sensory realm. Indeed, Rogani's starting point in developing his paintings is Nature itself. The artist focuses on the study of flowers, focusing on details of the corolla and petals in his execution, with the aim of transferring their true essence to the canvas. Rogani's approach somehow resembles the exponents of the "Last Naturalism" movement, who macroscopically enlarged plant elements, thus arriving at Informalism. This influence is even more evident in the present work, where the gouache technique allows Rogani to express his gestures more freely than in other works in which the form/flower is somehow preserved.

Antonio Nigro Rogani was born in Montemesola in 1964.
