The origin of the Exultet Scroll dates back to the period when Desiderius was abbot of the monastery of Montecassino (1058-1087).\n\n This abbot belongs to the history of great figures in Italian art and the church, and especially under his guidance, the monastery became one of the most renowned cultural centers of southern Italy. Between 1066 and 1071, he built a new abbey at Montecassino.\n\n He brought the monastery's scriptorium to its peak, summoning important artists and having over 70 manuscripts written and illuminated.
