He therefore uses a rapid and concise brushstroke, prioritizing the expressive potential of color in a precise, yet precise, depiction of reality. The brushstrokes are consistently thick, laden with color that spreads thickly. The surface is flattened, allowing little spatial depth. The entire composition resolves itself into an interlocking of planes, determined by the flow of the painterly ductus. Given these characteristics of conciseness and marked expressiveness, it can be said that, in his pictorial language, Balsamo is closer to an impressionist style, while maintaining a rather classic and traditional composition with a strong realist undertone.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\n \u003cp\u003eSalvatore Balsamo (Naples, 1894 – 1922) was an Italian painter. He trained in his hometown under the tutelage of Vincenzo Irolli, Giuseppe Casciaro, and Eugenio Scorzelli; he died at the age of twenty-eight, leaving little biographical information. He distinguished himself as a landscape painter with a robust and spontaneous style, influenced by his masters and the works of Nicolas De Corsi.
