On the one hand, faces, characterized by large expressionistic masks, are a highly developed theme for an artist considered one of the most important exponents of the Transavanguardia movement. On the other, the subject of \"Maternity,\" to which Chia gives a profane interpretation, featuring a reclining Venus and a cupid. This allows him to develop a study of the female nude, always interpreted with his neo-expressionist language, typical of Transavantgarde artists.\n\r \nAmong the most important representatives of the Transavanguardia, a movement theorized by Achille Bonito Oliva, Sandro Chia also developed his language through a recontextualization of Expressionism and, in particular, the Fauvist movement. Indeed, in these two works, we can see how Chia subjects the figure to a marked process of synthesis and deformation, thus giving the figures an extremely dynamic and sinuous rhythm. Chia's chromatic choices also take on a decidedly expressionistic feel, with strong contrasts of aggressive colors that completely transcend the sensory element to acquire a spiritual and symbolic meaning. Despite his strong connection to the synthesis and essentiality of Fauvist figuration, Sandro Chia retains a profound sense of form and plasticity. This can be seen both in the solid volumes of the masks and in the concrete mass of the maternal body.\n\r \nAlessandro Coticchia, known professionally as Sandro Chia, was born in Florence in 1946. He is one of the most important members of the Italian Transavanguardia movement (also known in Europe as Neo-Expressionism). Sandro Chia has a diverse artistic background. In 1969, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where he had come into contact with the leading European and later American neo-avant-garde movements. He moved to Rome for a decade and then to New York for about two decades. In the late 1970s, after various travel experiences in Asia and Europe, he converted to figurative art and naturally and automatically became part of the Transavanguardia movement.","brand":"Battistuzzi Gianantonio","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":56217838780802,"sku":"GBATT004","price":3750.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0909\/7065\/3058\/files\/Sandro-Chia-Voltddi-Acquaforte-Acquatinta-92x64-copia-scaled.jpg?v=1768468710","url":"https:\/\/cjfh11-ee.myshopify.com\/en\/products\/sandro-chia-volti-maternita","provider":"Venderequadri","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
