The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. In his treatment of landscape, artist Sergio Cozzuol demonstrates how his pictorial practice is firmly rooted in the Italian figurative tradition, with a high classical sense of the naturalistic rendering of sensory data.

All of Sergio Cozzuol's landscape works display excellent quality, both in composition and pictorial technique. The execution of the work exudes a classical influence, drawing on the Italian pictorial tradition, particularly the Renaissance. The composition is highly dynamic, built on deep perspective and an ideal, harmonious balance between the foreground elements and the background. Indeed, the artist depicts large portions of landscape that fade into the horizon, blending effortlessly, while the foreground elements are rendered with realistic precision. Cozzuol masters the art of measuring space through subtle shifts in tone, framing the entire landscape in a coherent and unified atmosphere. Consequently, the role of light is crucial, creating a striking interplay of shadows and nuances. This painter's pictorial style is meticulous in achieving a perfect naturalistic rendering, occasionally alternating with a more painterly touch to give the composition greater freshness. The chromaticism is vivid and brilliant in the light-filled openings.

Sergio Cozzuol was born in Pula, Croatia, in 1941. He began studying drawing and painting with Professors Rigon and De Pellegrini. After a brief internship, he enrolled at the Academy of Art in Vicenza under the guidance of Professor Otello De Maria, with whom he completed his training. Before he turned twenty-three, he moved from Veneto to Milan, where he specialized in miniature painting on precious metals. Having recognized his exceptional pictorial abilities in this field, he officially began his career as a painter. Due to the characteristics of his art and his style of painting, he was contacted primarily by German and Austrian galleries, with whom he worked for many years. However, he also exhibited in other countries besides Italy. His paintings are now present throughout the world. He currently lives and works in Genoa.
