After his studies, he settled permanently in Florence, where he would spend his entire career. He frequented Ardengo Soffici and Ottone Rosai, and in Austria he met Oskar Kokoschka, who would become his main stylistic influence. He had many important solo exhibitions, including the XXXII Venice Biennale and participated in several editions of the Rome Quadriennale. From 1973 to 1990, he taught painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. His works are held at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome and in museums in New York, Paris, Brussels, Milan, and Pisa.
